Baseball Pounds Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 24 Shenandoah University posted its third straight baseball victory Friday afternoon with a 16-5 ODAC win at Guilford College.

Shenandoah (13-6, 4-3 ODAC) banged out 20+ plus hits for the second straight day in taking out the Quakers (10-12-1, 1-6).

All nine starters had at least one hit with Tristan Baker, Grant Thompson, Luke Nussman and Chase Smallwood getting three each.

Nussman had a home run, a two-run shot in the ninth and his first of the season, with Smallwood driving in three runs.

Smallwood's second RBI, on a two-run double down the right field line in the fifth, proved to the game-winner.

Keegan Woolford also had three RBI on a 2-for-5 day while Henry Delavergne and Nick Goode getting two hits each.

SU scored four runs in the second, six in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull away.

The offense was more than enough for senior Colin Morse, who tossed the first seven innings of the win. Morse (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four.

Brett Ritter and Cole DuBois finished up with each throwing an inning of relief.

Trevor Denton (3-4) took the loss after giving up eight runs on 11 hits and three walks in 4.0 innings.

The two teams complete their weekend series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
