HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team began its spring break schedule with a 7-2 non-league victory over Defiance (Ohio) Thursday morning.

The win is the third straight for SU (3-0) to start the spring season.

The Hornets swept the doubles, headlined by an 8-1 win from Matt Hwang and Zach Frack at No. 1, before taking four of the six singles matches.

Hwang, playing No. 1 singles, had the match-clinching win. He downed Adam Swisher 6-1, 6-2.

Darian Diaz, who combined with Bryan Harris to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, put Hwang in position to clinch with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Evan Rosenberg and Kyler Apgar were also double-winners for the Hornets. The duo took out Nathan Principe and Ring Lardner 8-4 at No. 3 doubles with Rosenberg winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Apgar 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5. The two defeated the same two men in singles as they did in doubles - Rosenberg faced Principe at No. 4 and Apgar took on Lardner at No. 5.

Defiance falls to 1-6 with the loss.

Shenandoah continues play on Saturday, March 17 with an 11 a.m. ODAC match at Virginia Wesleyan.
