Baseball Sweeps Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The No. 18/29 Shenandoah University baseball team completed its third straight undefeated week with a doubleheader sweep of its ODAC series at Hampden-Sydney Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (24-6, 11-3 ODAC) ran its winning streak to 14 games with 26-2 and 11-5 victories over the Tigers (12-15, 6-8).

The Hornets had 44 hits in the sweep, including 24 in the game one win.

In the opener, senior Colin Morse (5-2) tossed the initial 6.0 innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and five walks while striking out nine.

Cole DuBois pitched the seventh and eighth with CJ Morton working a scoreless ninth. Both DuBois and Morton had three strikeouts.

Nick Goode was 5-for-5 with four RBI in the game one win while Jamie Naill was 4-for-5 with four RBI and both Tristan Baker and Chase Smallwood 3-for-5 with three RBI each.

Grant Thompson was 3-for-5 with five runs batted in.

All nine starters had at least one hit in the game.

In game two, Robert Marcelle and Luke Nussman were both 4-for-6 with three RBI and Goode, Baker, Thompson, Naill and Keegan Woolford all had two hits.

The Hornets broke open a 6-5 game with one run in the eighth and four in the ninth.

Robert Klinchock (4-2) gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk in 6.0 innings of work to earn the win. Michael Bugonowicz earned his third save with three innings of relief work.

Klinchock had seven strikeouts.

The Hornets return home on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. non-league contest versus Messiah.
