WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team began its final weekend of the regular season by splitting an ODAC doubleheader versus Randolph College.
Shenandoah (13-23, 3-13 ODAC) was a 2-0 victor in the opener before Randolph (14-19, 7-9) came back to win 8-5 in the nightcap.
The Hornets scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning of game one as the 'Cats had two errors that allowed Allie Schey and Maryann Hollen to score.
It was all of the offense that sophomore Katherine Seidl (7-11) would need as the righty scattered five hits and one walk to register her first shutout of the season.
Seidl retired Randolph in order in the first, third, fourth and sixth.
Schey, Megan Wilk and Kayla O'Connell all had hits for SU.
The 'Cats broke a 4-4 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh of game two. Shenandoah scored a run in the bottom of the frame on a Schey walk followed by a Wilk groundout and a Morgan Henley RBI single to center, but were retired on a flyout to left and a lineout to second.
Sierra Beaty had a two-run single to left in the fourth with Kristen Weadon posting a 3-for-3 performance that included an RBI single in the fourth.
SU completes its season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Roanoke.
