Macon Sweeps Baseball

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 4/3 Randolph-Macon maintained its position atop the ODAC baseball standings by sweeping a doubleheader from No. 11/26 Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (26-4-1, 16-2 ODAC) opened with an 18-2 win in game one before completing the sweep with an 8-4 victory over SU (26-8, 13-5) in the nightcap.

R-MC broke open a 2-2 opener with 10 runs in the sixth off of three Shenandoah pitchers.

Hornets starter Colin Morse (5-3), who to that point was cruising with seven strikeouts, allowed four runs on two hits, two walks and a throwing error before turning it over to Seth Comer.

Comer got two outs, but allowed another four runs on three hits and one walk before Derrick Snider got the final out of the frame.

The 'Jackets added one run in the seventh and five more in the eighth to provide the final margin of victory and five of their 17 hits in the contest went for extra bases.

Tristan Baker, Robert Marcelle, Luke Nussman, Grant Thompson and Chase Smallwood all had hits with Marcelle registering the only RBI.

Colin Selby (8-1) struck out eight in 7.0 innings to get the win.

Trailing 3-0 after R-MC scored three runs on three hits and a walk in the second inning of game two, Shenandoah took its only lead of the day by scoring four runs on four hits and a walk in the third.

Unfortunately, the lead lasted just one out as Joseph Tuzzolo led off the Macon fourth with a solo HR to left center. R-MC hit six home runs in the doubleheader.

Henry Delavergne had a two-run single in the third with Marcelle and Keegan Woolford also driving in runs.

Baker and Grant Thompson both had two hits.

Robert Klinchock (4-3) took the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Nick Roth (8-0) was the winner for Macon. He gave up four runs on seven hits and one walk in 6.0 innings.

Shenandoah hosts Washington and Lee on Tuesday in a 4 p.m. ODAC contest.
