Men's Tennis Clinches Tournament Bid

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team clinched a spot in the ODAC Tournament thanks to a 9-0 victory over Randolph College Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (7-6, 3-5 ODAC) needed to win just two matches on the court as Randolph (2-12, 1-9) forfeitted at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.

Bryan Harris and Zack Frack, playing No. 2 doubles, put the Hornets one win from the win with an 8-0 win.

Matt Hwang and Darian Diaz then took out Bradley Stober and Joe Kaneda 8-5 to sew up the victory.

With the win, Shenandoah moves into a tie with Lynchburg for seventh place in the league standings with the top eight teams qualifying for the post-season tournament. SU has a two-match lead over Roanoke, Randolph and Emory and Henry with two matches to play plus holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over all three of those schools. This means the Hornets can finish no worse than eighth in the league and have clinched the spot in the tournament for the second time in six seasons of league play.

Hwang, Diaz and Frack were all double winners with Hwang winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Diaz 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 2 and Frack 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

Evan Rosenberg, who picked up a forfeit win in doubles, won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.

Shenandoah hosts Guilford on Friday in a 3 p.m. ODAC match.
