Blazers Sweep Softball

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Hood College swept a non-league softball doubleheader from Shenandoah University Tuesday afternoon.

The Blazers (9-9) were 1-0 winners in the opener before completing the sweep over SU with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.

Shenandoah (10-14) rallied from an 8-0 deficit in game two with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the seventh, but could not come all the way back.

The Hornets brought the game-tying run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh only to see the Blazers escape by registering a pair of strikeouts around a walk.

Autumn Beasley had a two-run single in the fifth inning of game two with Sierra Beaty posting run-scoring singles in the fourth and seventh.

Beasley, Beaty, Morgan Henley and Megan Wilk all had two hits in game two.

Elizabeth Everette (4-4) took the loss in game two after giving up six runs on seven hits in 1.0 innings of work. Carrie Robinson replaced her four batters into the second inning.

Hood held the Hornets to one hit in the opening game to take a 1-0 decision. Kaitlin Barron plated the game's lone run on a triple in the second inning.

Freshman Carly Shaw had the lone hit for the Hornets, on a leadoff single to center in the sixth, to break up the no-hit bid.

Katherine Seidl (5-7) gave up one earned run on five hits in the complete game performance. The sophomore struck out four and walked one.

Shenandoah continues this homestand Saturday with a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Roanoke.
