Baseball Rocks Spartans

YORK, Pa. – No. 22 Shenandoah University ran its baseball winning streak to six games Thursday afternoon with a 17-3 non-league win at York College of Pennsylvania.

Shenandoah (16-6) banged out 17 hits against the Spartans (8-9-1) while scoring a combined six runs in the first four innings to take a commanding lead.

SU scored one run in the first, third and fourth along with four runs in the second to take control versus YCP.

After York (Pa.) scored one in the second and two in the third, Shenandoah turned the game into a rout with five runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Senior Nick Goode drove in the eighth inning runs with a grand slam home run to left center. Goode's 390-foot blast closed the book on the day's scoring. He finished the day 1-for-4 with five RBI.

All nine starters got at least one hit with three: Robert Marcelle, Luke Nussman and Matt Moon, getting three hits each.

Marcelle and Nussman were both 3-for-6 with two RBI while Moon was 3-for-5 with one run batted in.

Keegan Woolford also had a pair of RBIs on a two-out double in the second.

Grant Thompson and Henry Delavergne each had two hits and drove in one.

Sophomore Gerard DePhillips was the beneficiary of the offensive output as he picked up his third win of the season with 6.0 innings of work.

DePhillips (3-1) allowed the three runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three.

Shenandoah returns home tomorrow for a 2 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Emory and Henry.
