Baseball Sweeps Neumann

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 22 Shenandoah University baseball completed its second straight undefeated week with a non-league sweep over Neumann University Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (20-6) was a 3-2 winner in game one before completing the sweep over the Knights (11-13) with an 11-0 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, junior Tristan Baker laced a two-out, bases loaded double down the right field line to provide the Hornets with the winning runs in a 3-2 victory.

Baker's double, his third hit of the game, erased a 2-1 deficit and made a winner of junior Reeves Lowry.

Baker's hit came off of a Knights closer Kutter Endy, who had come into the game with a 0.59 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.

Lowry (3-0) went 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight.

After Lowry allowed the first two Neumann hitters in the seventh to reach on a hit batsman and a walk, SU skipper Kevin Anderson turned to relievers Derrick Snider and Tyler Ritenour to shut the door.

Both men did their job, with Snider cutting down the lead runner at third on an attempted sacrifice bunt before Ritenour immediately picked a runner off at second base after replacing Snider.

Following a two-out walk, Ritenour locked up his second save by getting designated hitter Cody McNair to line out to Baker at second base.

Shenandoah scored its first run of the game on two out single by Chase Smallwood in the second. Smallwood plated Grant Thompson, who had walked with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Anderson's club scored two runs in the first, three in the second and six in the fourth to fuel the game two victory.

Freshman southpaw Michael Prosperi scattered seven hits in throwing a complete game shutout.

Prosperi (1-0) struck out two and walked just one in earning the victory in his first collegiate start. His defense helped him out with a pair of 5-4-3 inning-ending double plays.

Robert Marcelle was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Keegan Woolford was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Luke Nussman 2-for-4 as he drove in a pair of runs.

SU continues this homestand with a 4:00 Tuesday game versus ODAC rival Bridgewater.
