WINCHESTER, Va. – The fourth-seeded Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team punched its ticket to the ODAC Tournament semi-finals with a 12-5 quarterfinal round victory over No. 5 Bridgewater Wednesday night.
Shenandoah (12-5) advanced to the tournament semi-finals for the fourth time in six years with its second victory in eight days over the Eagles (11-6).
The Hornets now play top-seeded Washington and Lee on Saturday at noon in the first of two semi-final round games on the W&L campus.
Coach Lindsey Lutz' squad scored the initial five goals of the game, scoring just 29 seconds into the game to lead wire-to-wire.
Anna Baxter had that first goal, on a free position shot, and finished the game with three goals and one assist for four points.
Sophomore Jordyn Miller had what proved to be the game-winning goal, on another free position shot, 5:07 into the second half. The Hornets finished 7-of-13 on FTA for the game.
Following Miller's tally, SU held at least a five-goal lead for the remainder of the contest.
"So proud of these women for beating beating Bridgewater for the second time in week," Lutz said. "I am excited tournament semi-finals and we have a chance to do something special."
Shenandoah outshot the Eagles 34-30, had a 10-9 advantage in draw controls and grabbed 25 of the game's 43 groundballs.
SU was also 22-of-24 on clears.
Alyson Bittinger matched Baxter with three goals and one assist with Abby Zorrilla adding two goals and one assist and Nikki Zerna two goals. Annie McCorry had four groundballs and six of the Hornets 10 draw controls.
Jacque Hemler added three groundballs, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
