Carnegie Mellon Tops Women's Soccer

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team dropped a 6-2 non-league decision to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon University Friday evening in the opening game of the Tartan Cup. 

IN BRIEF

Playing on the Tartans (1-0) home service, Shenandoah (0-1) saw its hosts pull away from a 1-1 game with five straight goals in the middle of the contest.

The two teams each scored in the opening five minutes of the game, with junior Emily Yergin knotting the game at 1-1 on a Jocelyn Granados through ball at 4:16.

Yergin's goal came 75 seconds after CMU scored the opening goal of the contest.

The Tartans took control with goals in the 15th, 23rd, 51st, 75th and 85th minutes before freshman Maiya Pencile tallied unassisted for Shenandoah at 87:52.

Shenandoah takes on No. 6 Johns Hopkins in the second round of the classic-format tournament.
