Women's Soccer Soars Over Eagles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Women's soccer wrapped up its non-league slate with a decisive 4-1 win at the University Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

Shenandoah (4-4) saw four different women score in the match, two of which were scored in five-minute span in the middle of the first half. Today's win marks two wins in a row over Mary Washington (4-2-1) for the women's soccer program.

33′ | Alison Spaziani crossed the ball and found Abby Alexa inside the box for the first goal of the match.

38′ | Emily Yergin played a through ball to Maiya Pencile where the frosh was able to beat the keeper for what proved to be the game-winning goal. The tally is Pencile's second goal of the season.

68′ | Spaziani took a corner kick for the Hornets that led to a Shannen de Leon goal.

88′ | Yergin finished a de Leon header in the box past the goalie to bring the score to 4-1 in favor of SU.

86′ | Shannon Blackstone crossed the ball in front of the net and Abby Zimmerman played the ball over Emilie Smith's head to bring the Eagles within two.

"This was a strong performance," head coach Liz Pike said. "Bella Infuso performed very well and sparked the three-goal win. Yergin, Alexa, Pencile and de Leon all had great goals. We are looking to ride this momentum into league play on Saturday."
