Hockey Shuts Out Hood

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah used a strong offensive effort on Wednesday afternoon to defeat the Hood Blazers 10-0 at Shentel Stadium. 

Six women scored for SU (2-1) in the shutout performance. Freshman Kelsey Jones scored her first of three in the ninth minute of the game to secure the non-league win over Hood (0-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED

8:30   | Kelsey Jones scored off of a penalty corner. Morgan Payne inserted the ball to the top of the circle where Jones was waiting; the frosh controlled the ball and placed her shot in the far left corner past the Blazer defense.

18:19 | Megan Stevens shot was saved by Hood goalie, Hailey Poisal, but Jones found the ball on the rebound and placed the ball over Poisal's head for her second goal of the game.

23:34 | Megan Stevens scored her first of the game after Taylor Hayes found Stevens open in the front of the goal.

29:49 | Hayes joined in on the scoring with an unassisted goal from 12 yards out, a hard shot that went in the far left corner.

32:32 | Jones and Payne teamed up again to score off their second penalty corner. Payne inserted the ball to Jones who had a clean shot, which was Jones' third of the game.

34:50 | Hayes crossed the ball to freshman Hailey Colt who found the back of the goal.

35:55 | Hayes continued her dominance into the second half with an unassisted goal, her second of the game.

45:01 | Hayes recorded her third assist of the game when senior Kayla Alderman brought the score to 8-0.

50:19 | Whitney Ross cleaned up the loose ball to sneak one past Hood after goalie Nicole Bennett made a series of tough saves.

51:33 | Ross scored her second of the game from a Colleen Schneider cross.

"Today was a great opportunity for every person on our team to contribute and see the field," said Head Coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft. "We executed on our chances in the circle and kept possession of the ball very well. I am extremely happy with the outcome of the game."
