WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan rallied for a 2-1 non-league men's soccer win over Shenandoah University Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (5-9) scored the initial goal of the game on a William Majano penalty kick in the 51st minute, but VWU (5-8) had an answer.
IN BRIEF
With 6:58 remaining, Collin Innes found Kevin Prophet with the equalizer. Innes inserted a corner kick, one of eight the Marlins had on the night, and Prophet headed it past Shenandoah keeper Sam Fischer for the game-tying goal.
Fischer kept his side in it following that tally, stopping Ikechukwu Etonyeaku on a penalty kick, and after the officials granted a re-kick because Fischer had left his line too early, stoned Etonyeaku again with a diving save to his left.
After neither team could find the back of the net again in regulation, Virginia Wesleyan got the game-winner 75 seconds into sudden victory OT as Scott Signorelli ran onto another Innes corner kick and flicked home the game-winner.
Fischer had eight saves in the losing effort.
