WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior
Christopher Chaney reached a significant career milestone Saturday as the Shenandoah University men's basketball team wrapped up its non-league slate with an 87-77 victory over Southern Virginia in the 2019 Shenandoah Christmas Tournament consolation.

Chaney led all scorers with 27 points and his layup at the 6:41 mark of the second gave him 1000 career points.

Chaney is the 19
th man in program history to score at least 1000 career point as he helped Shenandoah (4-7) snap a five-game losing streak with the win over Southern Virginia (1-13).

Chaney's bucket gave the Hornets a 68-61 lead and Shenandoah, which has struggled from the line this season, iced the game by making 10 of its next 12 attempts at the charity stripe heading into the waning moments.

Shenandoah ended up shooting 83 percent (29-of-35) from the line after making all 11 of its attempts in the first half.

The two teams had two lead changes and five ties before SU took the lead for good on a
Harry Wall 3-pointer at the first half buzzer.

Wall's '3', one of six for the Hornets on the day, kickstarted a 14-4 run that put Shenandoah up 10, 51-41, with 17:34 to play.

The Knights would get no closer than five points the rest of the way and the SU lead expanded to 14 points on a Chaney jumper at 13:53.
