Softball Splits with Alvernia

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team split its home opener today with Alvernia. 

Shenandoah (2-3) was a 9-1 winner in five innings over the Golden Wolves (1-1) in the opener only to see Alvernia rally for an 11-8 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Shenandoah earned the five-inning, mercy rule with an eight-run third. Madison Clark and Meghan Stout each drove in a pair of runs in the frame, Clark on a single to right and Stout with a double.

Morgan Henley (1-1) went the distance in the circle, struck out three, did not walk a batter and allowed the one run on five hits.

Henley, Stout, Autumn Beasley and Carly Shaw all had two hits in the victory.

GAME TWO

Leading 8-3 after scoring two runs in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth, Shenandoah gave up two runs in the fifth and six more in the seventh to come out on the short end of an 11-8 score.

Both teams had 11 hits in the contest.

Clark was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Allie Schey 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Both women had doubles.

Megan Scalley (0-2) took the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. Carrie Robinson started and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and six walks in 5 2/3 innings.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah returns to the diamond on Thursday with a 3:30 non-league home doubleheader versus Gettysburg.
