BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Host Bridgewater College had an excellent shooting performance Wednesday evening in a 94-72 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University.
The Eagles (11-11, 6-7 ODAC) shot 58 percent from the field (18-of-31) in the first half on their way to a 16-point, 44-28, lead over SU (5-17, 1-12).
In the second half, BC shot an even 50 percent (18-of-36) as it expanded its lead out to a maximum of 23 points before coasting home to the 22-point win.
IN BRIEF
The Eagles had a pair of first half runs, one 6-0 and the other 11-0, to fuel the halftime lead. Bridgewater held Shenandoah scoreless over the final 3:17 of the half to turn a five-point lead into a 16-point advantage.
Shenandoah ate into the Bridgewater lead to cut the deficit to nine points, 60-51, with 11:38 remaining only to see the Eagles score eight straight points in a span of 1:41 to push the lead back out to 17 with 9:57 left.
SU would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
The loss, combined with Randolph's win over Emory and Henry, officially eliminates the Hornets from ODAC Tournament consideration. SU is four games behind ninth-place Randolph with three to play and Eastern Mennonite, currently tied for 10th with Ferrum, holds the tiebreaker over both the Hornets and Panthers.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah travels to the Hill City Saturday to take on the other set of ODAC Hornets, the Lynchburg Hornets, in a 5:30 ODAC contest.
