Lutz Earns Win No. 100

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team opened its 2019 ODAC slate Saturday afternoon with a 15-9 victory at Virginia Wesleyan.

The win is also victory No. 100 for head coach Lindsey Lutz. Her squad scored the seven of the first nine goals of the game and led for the final 48:45 of the contest.

Sophomore Alyson Bittinger put Shenandoah (6-3, 1-0 ODAC) on top to stay with her goal off of a Cassie Arndt assist at 11:15 of the first.

IN BRIEF

Virginia Wesleyan (4-4, 0-1) started the second half on a 6-2 run that cut the deficit to just one, 9-8, with 18:06 remaining.

The Hornets answered by scoring five straight in the next 12 minutes to pull away and give Lutz her historic victory. Arndt had two of the goals while assisting on another (to Bittinger) while Anna Baxter and Kaitlyn Morris scored one time each.

The Marlins snapped the streak with an Abby Shope free position goal with 2:11 left, but the deficit proved to much.

Nikki Zerna scored unassisted with 57 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

Lutz is 100-79 in 11+ seasons as the program's head coach.
