Softball Splits Another

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed another busy week by splitting a non-league doubleheader with Mary Washington Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (11-10) was a 10-5 winner in game one but could not complete the sweep as UMW (9-10) was a 4-0 victor in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

The Hornets scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth, but needed a six-run seventh to secure a 10-5 win in the opener.

BayLee Jenkins had the go-ahead RBI on an infield single before Madison Clark's two-run single to center gave SU a three-run advantage.

Freshman Megan Scalley (3-2) went the distance, allowing the five runs on 14 hits and three walks while striking out two.

Jenkins, Morgan Henley, Allie Schey and Carly Shaw all had three hits with Meghan Stout adding two hits in four at-bats.

GAME TWO

Shenandoah loaded the bases in the top of the seventh only to see UMW get out of it with a game-ending strikeout and salvaged the split with a 4-0 win.

Juliet Truslow (3-1) scattered seven hits in the win while walking three and striking out three.

Carrie Robinson (6-4) went the distance for SU and gave up the four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks. She also struck out three.

Maryann Hollen was 2-for-3 and both Shaw and Stout 1-for-4 for the Hornets.
