ASHLAND, Va. – No. 9/15 Randolph-Macon had a combined 25 hits in sweeping an ODAC baseball doubleheader from Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
Macon (12-4, 9-1 ODAC) had 10 hits in the 8-3 game one victory before banging out an additional 15 hits in completing the sweep over SU (10-7, 5-5) with a 13-4 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Robert Marcelle gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the fourth but the Yellow Jackets answered with four in the bottom of the frame to take control of the contest.
Shenandoah, with two runs in the sixth, was able to cut its deficit to 5-3 before Macon pulled away with two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
Marcelle and Keegan Woolford both had one hit and one RBI in the contest.
Reeves Lowry (1-3) took the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits and five walks in 5.0 innings. He also struck out seven.
Nick Roth (4-0) had the complete game victory for the 'Jackets. He allowed the three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine.
GAME TWO
A six-run first gave R-MC all of the offense it would need in the 13-4 win.
The 'Jackets jumped on SU starter Robert Klinchock for the six runs on six hits and one Shenandoah error.
Klinchock (3-2) went 3 2/3 innings and gave up 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and two walks. He had three strikeouts.
Macon got another solid performance from its starting pitcher as Michael Zubovich improved to 4-0 by throwing the first seven innings and striking out eight.
Marcelle, Tristan Baker and Ryan Coulon all had two hits with Tyler Kroll driving in a pair.
