WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University battled through the bitter cold and a determined opponent Wednesday afternoon in an 18-11 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Widener University.
After Widener (1-2) scored the game's initial goal, Shenandoah (3-2) answered with six straight to take a lead it would not relinquish.
IN BRIEF
Five different women scored during that six-goal run with sophomore Alyson Bittinger tallying twice.
After the Pride broke the string with an unassisted goal at 16:05, junior Cassie Arndt set up Bittinger at 15:40 and Nikki Zerna at 11:39 to reassert control.
Widener made matters interesting with a 5-1 run that bridged halftime before Shenandoah answered with a 5-2 run of its own to put the game away.
The Pride scored two straight, at 8:31 and 4:06, before the Hornets closed out the game on a four-goal run.
Bittinger led all scorers with six goals and two assists for eight points.
