Hornets Down Quakers

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team continued its winning ways Saturday with a 3-2 ODAC victory over Guilford College.

On a day in which the program honored the 2009 South Region championship team, Shenandoah (23-11, 12-9 ODAC) got a stellar pitching performance from senior Robert Klinchock.

IN BRIEF

Klinchock (5-4) tossed a complete game eight-hitter, only allowing one unearned run while striking four and not walking a batter.

The southpaw retired the Quakers (15-23, 8-13) in order in the third, fifth and sixth innings with the third inning taking only four pitches.

Shenandoah got its winning run in the sixth as Tristan Baker, who had tripled and scored in the first, led off the frame with a single to left and moved into scoring position on an error.

Following a groundout, Luke Nussman plated Baker with a single to left. Nussman advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Matt Moon's single to right.

Klinchock ran into a little trouble in the seventh as Guilford saw its first two batters reach safely on a double and a single, but only allowed one run (on a double steal) before getting a strikeout, a groundout and a pop out to short right center in which Baker made an over-the-shoulder catch for the third out.

Baker finished his day 3-for-4 with Marcelle getting two hits in three at-bats.
