Macon Sweeps Softball

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Randolph-Macon swept Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon in ODAC softball action.

Macon (17-10, 6-6 ODAC) was a 10-1 winner in the opener before completing the sweep with a 7-2 victory over SU (14-15, 5-7) in game two.

GAME ONE

The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the first, two in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game after five.

R-MC had 11 hits in the game and took advantage of two SU errors to score two unearned runs.

Megan Scalley (5-4) took the loss for the hosts after allowing the 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits and two walks.

Candace Whittemore (10-5) had six strikeouts in earning the win. She allowed three hits and walked one.

Shenandoah scored its lone run in the first as Allie Schey doubled and came home on a Meghan Stout single through the right side.

GAME TWO

A five-run seventh broke a 2-2 tie and propelled the 'Jackets to the sweep with the 7-2 win.

Shenandoah had led 2-1 thanks to single runs in the first and second before R-MC tied it with a run in the third.

The game stayed knotted at 2-2 until Macon scored the five runs on six hits and one Hornets error in the seventh.

Schey again scored Shenandoah's first run, coming home on a Stout single along with an R-MC error in left, before Morgan Henley brought home Bridget Mason with a single to right center in the second.

The Hornets had 11 hits in the nightcap with Maryann Hollen, Jenna Barr and Madison Clark all getting two each.

Carrie Robinson (7-7) took the loss. She gave up seven runs on eight hits and four walks in 6.0 innings of work. Henley came on five batters into the seventh and allowed one hit.

Whittemore (11-5) was the winner in relief. She struck out five and gave up seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah travels to Randolph College Sunday for a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader.
