Yergin Ties All-Time Goals Record in Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team wrapped up the Meredith College Classic Saturday afternon with a 6-1 over the host Avenging Angels.

The Hornets (2-0) saw another balanced attacking effort with five different goal scorers to take down Meredith (1-1) in the non-conference matchup.

Senior Emily Yergin, who scored two goals and had one assist, tied the all-time goals record with her second goal of the day. With 51 career goals, she is now tied with Jen (Johnson) Boyer '95 and Brandy (Wheeler) Hudson '95.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SU 6' | Alison Spaziani sent the ball into the box from the right side towards Emily Yergin. Yergin deflected the ball toward Maiya Pencile who slipped her shot right past the goalie from three yards out.

SU 7' | The Meredith back line was able to block a Yergin shot from the right side, fortunately for Hornet fans, Spaziani was in the right place to clean up the deflection and bury the ball into the upper right corner.

SU 49' | Kristen Fisher fed the ball perfectly to Yergin from midfield. On the right side of the box, Yergin sent her shot toward the left post, a good bounce sent the ball past the line for the third time today.

SU 51' | Pencile found the ball after a solid tackle from Yergin. A give and go between the two of them gave Yergin the ball outside the box for a second goal almost identical to her first.

MC 57' | Lillian Fox converted a penalty kick for Meredith after the Hornets committed a foul in the box.

SU 67' | The Hornets converted their own penalty kick, Fisher buried her right-footed attempt into the left side of the net.

SU 78' | Sara Sonnak found Kaitlyn Carter to clear the ball out of traffic. Carter used her left foot to find the opposite corner of the goal.
