YORK, Pa. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team defeated York College 2-1 in an non-league overtime contest Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (3-4) struck first, scoring less than 30 seconds into the game, and were able to hold off the Hornets (6-1) until the fourth quarter when a Kelsey Jones goal sent the match into overtime.
Taylor Hayes gave SU the win with a goal three minutes into the sudden victory period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
YC 00:29 | The Spartans started quick with a feed from the left wing, Kristin Varilla tapped in the shot from Meghan Heary.
SU 47:43 | Kelsey Jones sent a hard shot, through traffic, from the top of the circle.
SU 62:27 | Taylor Hayes picked up a loose ball off a Lauren Tyre saved shot and was able to poke the ball through the last line of defense for the Spartans.
