GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Shenandoah University football team rolled up nearly 500 yards in total offense in earning its first-ever ODAC win at Guilford Saturday afternoon.
Â
Shenandoah (2-1, 1-1 ODAC) had 488 yards in offense, five sacks and a program-record 96-yard punt return in taking out the Quakers, 26-7, Saturday afternoon before 2100 fans.
Â
IN DEPTH
Senior
Nate Hill, who also had a fourth quarter interception, had that back-breaking 96-yard punt return at the 5:49 mark of the third quarter to put the Hornets up 26-0.
Â
Shenandoah led virtually the entire 60 minutes as it took just four plays and 1:15 to score the initial touchdown of the game.
Â
Quarterback
Ben Agostino, who was a perfect 4-for-4 on the drive, hit a wide open
Miles Moore for a 15-yard TD pass on a 1
st-and-10 to produce that initial TD.
Â
An 11-play, 83-yard drive made it 14-0 in favor of the visitors at the 11:19 mark of the second.
Â
Rashadeen Byrd Jr. had that score, breaking three tackles on his way to his third rushing touchdown of the year.
Â
The Hornets defense, which had two fumble recoveries and the Hill interception in addition to the five sacks, set up the third score.
Â
After Guilford returned the second half kick 32 yards to set itself up on its own 39,
Randy Oliver stripped running back Shanaan McCoy on the Quakers first down play to set SU up on the GC 43.
Â
Mario Wisdom bookended three Agostino completions with a pair of rushes, the latter a 13-yard scamper around the right side, to make it 20-0.
Â
Three possessions later, Hill effectively ended the contest by fielding a Harrison Kiser punt at his own four, cutting to the near sideline and outracing the Guilford coverage team to the endzone for the return TD.
Â
The punt return touchdown is the first for the program since
Jalen Hudson '19 did it in the season opener of the 2018 season at Methodist and breaks the 88-yard return that Josh White '17 had versus Catholic on October 29, 2016.
Â
Guilford used a 41-yard kickoff return following Hill's touchdown to key a two-play, 38-yard drive to make the score 26-7 with five minutes remaining in the third.
Â
Shenandoah turned the ball over on downs and had an interception in two red zone trips in the fourth.
