WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University opened up its 2020 softball season by dropping a non-league doubleheader to Misericordia.

The Cougars (2-0) were 4-0 winners in the lid-lifter before completing the sweep with a 2-1 victory over the Hornets (0-2) in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAP
Misericordia scored three runs in the third and one in the seventh and got a three-hitter from Brooke Moyle to earn the victory.

Moyle (1-0) gave up a pair of hits and struck out nine against one walk in the victory.

Megan Scalley (0-1) went the distance for the Hornets. She allowed four runs on seven hits and seven walks while striking out six.

Allie Schey all had singles for SU with Schey also stealing a base.
GAME TWO RECAP
All three runs in the nightcap came in the fifth inning as Misericordia completed the sweep with the one-run victory.

After the Cougars scored two runs on four hits in the top of the frame, Shenandoah answered with one run on two hits in the bottom.

Taylor Glover got the rally started with a two-out double to right center before scoring on
Sammy Amateau's single to center.

Pitcher
Morgan Henley (0-1) extended the rally by being hit by pitch, but Misericordia got a strike out looking to end the threat.

Miranda Bohn (1-0) went the distance for the visitors and allowed the one run on seven hits and struck out six.

Henley pitched well, scattering seven hits, and struck out two against two walks.

Amateau and Stone each had two hits in the contest.

Shenandoah continues this homestand to start the year by hosting Alvernia in a noon doubleheader Sunday.
