WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Washington & Lee stepped up the pressure in the second half to rally for a 77-72 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Wednesday evening at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
Shenandoah (6-15, 3-9 ODAC) held a one-point, 36-35, lead at the break, but the Generals (17-4, 9-3) rallied after the break.
IN BRIEF
The Hornets took that one-point advantage on the strength of 16 points off of 11 W&L turnovers while only giving up five points on nine miscues.
That all changed in the second.
The Generals scored 14 points off of 11 Shenandoah second-half turnovers and cut their turnovers to five to help secure the five-point victory.
Sophomore Trammel Anthony started the second half with a baseline dunk, but this proved to be the Hornets high-water mark.
Washington & Lee scored the game's next 11 points in a span of 2:28, and by the midway point of the stanza, held a 15-point lead.
Shenandoah would not cut its deficit back into single digits until the final minute of the contest, and although W&L missed six of its final 11 from the line, could not significantly cut into the visitors lead.
Washington & Lee had five players score in double figures and SU four.
