WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University earned its first softball win of the
Courtney Moyer era with a 5-4 non-league victory over Southern Virginia Monday afternoon.

The game two win for SU (1-5) allowed the Hornets to split the doubleheader with the Knights (1-3). Southern Virginia was a 10-5 victor in the opener.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Knights banged out 13 hits in the opener and led 9-1 after three innings on their way to the opening game victory.

The two teams traded single runs in the sixth before Shenandoah scored two runs on two hits and two SVA errors in the seventh.

Nikki Stone and
Sierra Beaty both had two hits to lead the offense with Beaty driving in a pair on two-run double through the left side in the seventh.

Sammy Amateau and
Morgan Henley, along with Stone, drove in single runs each.
Â
Megan Scalley (0-3) took the loss in the circle after allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Â
Lacey Clopper finished up and had three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work.
GAME TWO RECAP
Henley (1-2) tossed a complete game to earn the game two win as she allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out five.

Down 3-0 after the Knights scored one run in the second and two in the fourth, Shenandoah erupted for four runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth before scoring the eventual game-winning run in the sixth.

BayLee Jenkins had a two-run double with
Meghan Stout and Stone driving in single runs in that four-run rally.
Â
In the sixth,
Sydney Viar scored the game-winning run as she scampered home when
Arlene Miller struck out and the throw to first to cut her down went wide.

Stone had two of the Hornets seven hits in the victory.

Shenandoah continues this homestand Tuesday with a 3:30 non-league doubleheader versus Gettysburg.
