Men's Hoops Drops Tight Contest

Fall at Roanoke, 61-59

SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke College made up a one-point halftime deficit and held on for a 61-59 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Saturday night at the Cregger Center.

In a game that featured 15 lead changes and nine ties, Roanoke (3-1, 3-0 ODAC) took the lead for good on a Tripp Greene runner in the lane with 3:18 to play.

IN BRIEF

Now trailing by one, 59-58, Shenandoah (0-2, 0-2) turned it over three times and missed its final three field goal attempts down the stretch as the Maroons held on for the victory.

On what turned out to be its final possession, SU was fouled once and then turned the ball over on a drive along the baseline before getting off a potential game-tying shot.

Roanoke dribbled out the final three seconds to secure the victory.

Sophomore Jaylen Williams, playing in his first game in more than a year, led the visitors with 15 points with senior Deondre McNeill adding 10. McNeill had a double-double thanks to a co-game-high 13 rebounds.
