WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University clinched its second most successful football season in program history with a 14-6 ODAC win over league champion Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (7-3, 3-3 ODAC) also finishes its home slate undefeated for just the second time in program history and the first since 2003.

After W&L (8-2, 5-1) scored the initial touchdown of the game on a 44-yard Alex Wertz run at the 2:43 mark of the first, Shenandoah struck back in the second.

Senior
Austin Ragan, one of 22 men recognized prior to the contest, hauled in an 18-yard TD pass from Stephen Hugney to complete a nine-play, 55-yard drive with 10:23 to play in the half.

Patrick Ritchie's extra point gave the Hornets a lead they would not relinquish.

On the Hornets initial drive of the third, the squad drove 72 yards in 15 plays with
Rashadeen Byrd Jr. blasting over from the 6 on 2
nd-and-goal to give the hosts a 14-6 advantage.

The rushing touchdown was the 29
th of Byrd Jr.'s career, tying him with Anthony Frates '06 at the top of that career list.

The Generals last chance to score ended on a
Trammell Anthony end zone interception. With W&L at the Shenandoah 11 in the final minute of play, Anthony outjumped the Generals receiver seven yards deep in the end zone for the game-clinching play.

Shenandoah then took one knee to earn its third win in nine lifetime matchups.

W&L outgained SU, 356-255, and had 317 yards rushing but was just 7-of-17 on third down and 2-for-5 on fourth down conversions.

Hugney led the SU offense with a 23-for-33 passing performance that included 198 yards and the one touchdown pass. He completed passes to six different receivers.

Ben Burgan, the ODAC's leading tackler, had 20 stops with
Quante Redd adding 13 and Anthony 11. Burgan's 11th tackle of the game broke the single season record of 126. His new record now stands at 135.

"I am so happy for our seniors," head coach
Scott Yoder said. "We wanted to send them out with a win and we did that. It was a complete team performance this afternoon."
