WINCHESTER, Va. – Third-seeded University of Lynchburg registered the first upset of the 2021 ODAC Field Hockey Tournament with a 3-1 semi-final round victory over No. 19 Shenandoah University.

Lynchburg (14-6) avenged a 4-1 loss to Shenandoah (14-3) from this past Saturday with the semi-final round victory.

Shenandoah, which was seeking its fourth-ever ODAC championship game appearance, struck first with a goal just 69 seconds into the game.

Unfortunately for the hosts, Lynchburg had an answer.

Lynchburg brought the game back to level with an Aaryn Boatwright goal at 13:49.

The two teams played the remaining 16:51 scoreless and entered the break knotted at 1-1.

It took the visitors just 4:08 to take the lead as Emma Strouse set up Franka Weronek with what proved to be the game-winner.

With 13:59 remaining, Jackie Lerro scored unassisted to provide the final margin of victory.

Lynchburg's win earns them a Saturday date with Washington & Lee for the championship. The Generals, who bested Roanoke 2-0 Thursday night, will host that game.

Lynchburg outshot SU, 14-4, and had a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners.
