Women's Hoops Tops Gallaudet

Hornets Defeat Bison, 64-54

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its fourth straight victory over a non-league opponent this season with a 64-54 win at Gallaudet University Friday evening.

Shenandoah (5-3) jumped out to a 21-10 lead after one over the Bison (3-5) and cruised to the 10-point victory.

IN BRIEF
SU shot an amazing 77 percent from the field (10-for-13) in that opening stanza to take a lead it would not relinquish. Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club scored the initial 11 points of the game as it made six of its first eight attempts from the field.

Another 20-point quarter, this one coming in the third, put the game out of reach. The Hornets led 51-35 heading into the final 10 minutes and had more than enough cushion to withstand Gallaudet's 19 fourth quarter points.

Sarah Sondrol led nine SU women in the scoring column with 14 points while first-year Shawnise Campbell added 10 along with six rebounds.

Ragan Johnson, who had eight points, led a 38-rebound effort with seven.

Shenandoah ended up 31-of-66 from the field (47 percent) for the evening with Gallaudet shooting 40 percent (23-of-57). The Bison had 32 rebounds.

SU also scored 20 points off of 18 Gallaudet turnovers.
