WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its fourth straight victory over a non-league opponent this season with a 64-54 win at Gallaudet University Friday evening.
Â
Shenandoah (5-3) jumped out to a 21-10 lead after one over the Bison (3-5) and cruised to the 10-point victory.
Â
IN BRIEF
SU shot an amazing 77 percent from the field (10-for-13) in that opening stanza to take a lead it would not relinquish. Coach
Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club scored the initial 11 points of the game as it made six of its first eight attempts from the field.
Â
Another 20-point quarter, this one coming in the third, put the game out of reach. The Hornets led 51-35 heading into the final 10 minutes and had more than enough cushion to withstand Gallaudet's 19 fourth quarter points.
Â
Sarah Sondrol led nine SU women in the scoring column with 14 points while first-year
Shawnise Campbell added 10 along with six rebounds.
Â
Ragan Johnson, who had eight points, led a 38-rebound effort with seven.
