Generals Steal Victory from Women

W&L Hits Late '3' to Win, 69-68

LEXINGTON, Va. - Host Washington & Lee University hit a late 3-pointer to steal a 69-68 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Thursday evening.

Shenandoah (3-6, 2-5 ODAC) never trailed in the second half until Washington & Lee (4-1, 4-1) hit what proved to be the game-winning shot with 12 seconds remaining.

IN BRIEF

Megan Horn hit that '3' as she benefited from two quick passes to find herself wide open right in front bench and buried the shot before a closing defender could reach her.

SU turned the ball over on its ensuing possession and looked to have to foul, but forced a W&L turnover on the inbounds with 3.5 seconds remaining to give itself one last opportunity.

Ragan Johnson had that chance, but was unable to get her shot to fall as she battled through physical defense and the Generals kept their home record perfect in their new facility.

Shenandoah led 19-16 after one, 32-31 at the break and 51-46 heading into the fourth.

Freshman Madisen Kimble led the visitors with 19 points while Sierra St. Cyr added 17 and Sarah Sondrol 15.

The Hornets, thanks in large part to Johnson's 11 rebounds, dominated the boards 45-29. Washington & Lee was held to two second chance points.

Horn had a game-high 22 points for the victors.

QUOTE FROM COACH

"I thought we played a great game tonight, we saw a lot of different players step-up in different capacities. We have lost a lot of close games this season, these battles are certainly making us better for the long-haul going forward." - Head Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft
