Softball Splits at Mary Washington

Win Game Two, 6-0, After Falling, 4-3, in Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team salvaged a split of its non-league doubleheader at Mary Washington Saturday afternoon.

After Mary Washington (1-1) was a 4-3 winner in the opener, Shenandoah came back to shut the Eagles out, 6-0, in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Mary Washington made one run in the second and three more in the third hold up in a 4-3 opening game victory.

Shenandoah (3-3) scored its three runs in the sixth on five hits and one Eagles error; BayLee Jenkins had a two-run single to right to get the rally started while Tiffany Bower plated pinch runner Catera Marsh with a sacrifice fly to right.

Allie Schey and Sammy Amateau got SU started in the frame with a pair of singles to center. Thanks to an error on Amateau's single, both women moved up 60 feet to put each in position to score on Jenkins' single.

Amateau and Jenkins both had two hits in the loss.

Megan Scalley (1-2) took the loss. She allowed four runs on six hits and five walks in 6.0 innings of work. Scalley struck out two.

GAME TWO

A four-spot in the fourth broke open a one-run game and fueled the 6-0 victory.

Winning pitcher Kayla Stephenson (2-0) led off the SU fourth with an infield single and moved into scoring position on Erin Barnett's base on balls.

A pair of RBI singles followed, with Allie Schey driving in one and Taylor Glover two on a shot to center.

Glover ended up scoring the final run of the frame on a wild pitch.

Stephenson scattered eight hits and struck out one in 6.0 innings before turning it over to Alexis Hurley for the seventh. She allowed one hit.

Bower finished 3 for 4, Schey 2 for 3 and Stephenson 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
