WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team returned to the diamond Tuesday afternoon by splitting an exhibition doubleheader with Potomac State College.

Shenandoah (3-5) rallied to win game two, 13-12, after Potomac State was an 8-3 victor in the opener.

GAME ONE
After the two teams were scoreless through four, PSC broke the game one open with four runs in the fifth followed by two runs each in the sixth and seventh.

Shenandoah was able to answer with one in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh, but could not make it all the way back.

Sammy Amateau was 2-for-4 to lead the Hornets offense.

Kamryn Kelly all drove in runs.

Bower had a sacrifice fly in the sixth while Kelly plated one run on a double to right and Schey a single to left in the seventh.

Megan Scalley had two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings and
Alexis Hurley one over the final 2 1/3.

GAME TWO
The Hornets won in walkoff fashion in the seventh, scoring two runs on two hits and a crucial Catamounts error that caused both runs to be unearned.

Schey had the game-winning hit, lacing a two-out, bases loaded single just inside the leftfield line to bring home
Meghan Stout with the game-winning run.

Stout had reached on a throwing error.

SU jumped out to an 8-0 lead thanks to one run in the first, five in the second and two more in the third, but saw PSC put up a 10-spot in the fourth to come all the way back and take a two-run lead.

That lead expanded to four runs before the Hornets began their comeback with one run in the fifth followed by two in the sixth.

Amateau was 4-for-5 with five RBI and also cut down a run at the plate with a perfect throw from centerfield.
