Hornets Held to Five Hits in ODAC DH

SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke College used a pair of strong pitching performances Monday to sweep an ODAC softball doubleheader from Shenandoah.

Roanoke (8-2, 2-0 ODAC) was an 8-0 winner in the opener before taking the nightcap, 5-2, over Shenandoah (3-9, 0-4).

GAME ONE

The Maroons held SU to just two hits and used a six-run fifth to end the opening game after five innings.

RC got its offense started with two runs in the third before closing the game out via NCAA Mercy Rule with the six-spot in the fifth.

Morgan Henley and Kayla Stephenson had the Hornets hits.

Megan Scalley (1-5) gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings.

She struck out four before Morgan Henley came on six batters into the fifth. Henley gave up the final two runs on three hits and retired one batter.

GAME TWO

Roanoke scored one run in the bottom of the first in game two, but did not break the contest open until scoring three runs in the fourth followed by a single run in the sixth.

Shenandoah scored its two runs on two hits in the seventh. Henley led off with a single to right center and following a BayLee Jenkins walk, pinch hitter Kamryn Kelly brought both women home on a double to right.
