HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team continued its march to an ODAC Tournament berth with a 3-0 victory at Eastern Mennonite Thursday night.
Shenandoah (5-4, 4-4 ODAC) won at 21, 22, and 17 over the Royals (3-7, 3-6).
IN BRIEF
The Hornets led wire-to-wire in the opening set and controlled the third set from the midpoint on, but needed a rally in the second.
Trailing 20-16 after committing a service error, SU scored the next eight points of the match to put itself one point from stealing the win.
EMU was able to answer with two points of its own before Kate Poppo set up Caitlyn Houck for the set-clinching kill.
Poppo had two of the Hornets three kills during that eight-point run while the Royals helped out with four attack errors and one ball handling error.
A 4-0 run midway through the third put SU on top to stay. Houck and Peyton Clary combined to block an EMU kill attempt for the match-clinching point.
Jillian Warter led the victors with 11 kills with Poppo adding eight and Clary six.
Houck had 16 assists and Megan Hillyard 13 to help run the offense. Defensively, Poppo had 12 digs and Warter 10.
