WINCHESTER, Va. –  The Shenandoah University softball team earned its second doubleheader sweep of the season Thursday by taking a pair of ODAC games from Eastern Mennonite.
Â
Shenandoah (7-17, 4-12) was a 6-5 victor in the opener before completing the sweep over EMU (2-22, 0-18) with a 10-2, six-inning win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Playing in its home finale, and likely last-ever series at Henkel-Harris Field, the Hornets scored single runs in the first and second, along with two runs in both the third and fourth, to hold off the Royals in the 6-5 win.
Â
Morgan Henley, who came on midway through the fourth, earned her first victory of the season with 3 1/3 innings of relief work. Henley (1-2) scattered two hits, walked one and struck out two in relief of
Megan Scalley.
Â
After EMU erased a 4-1 deficit with a four-run fourth, Shenandoah scored two runs in the bottom half of that frame to provide the winning margin.
Â
Kamryn Kelly led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second and tied the game at 5-5 as
Allie Schey singled up the middle through a drawn-in infield.
Â
Schey then stole second, before
Sammy Amateau drove her home with a double to left center.
Â
Amateau and Henley both had two hits in the win.
GAME TWO
Three runs in the first and sixth, combined with two runs in both the second and fifth, added up to a 10-2, six-inning win in the nightcap.
Â
Catcher
BayLee Jenkins was 2-for-3 with three RBI on a two-run home run in the second and a run-scoring single in the fifth while
Kayla Stephenson tossed a complete game eight-hitter to finish off the sweep.
Â
Stephenson (5-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on the eight hits and one walk while striking out three.
Â
Tiffany Bower had the walk-off hit with a two-run single to right center. She brought home Amateau and Schey to get to the eight-run margin.
Â
Schey finished 3-for-4 with Jenkins and
Nikki Stone getting two hits each. Bower joined Jenkins with three RBI.

Shenandoah takes over the management of those fields, which include Bridgeforth Field for the Hornets baseball program and Rotary Field for softball, this summer.
- Rotary Field is scheduled to be upgraded with an artificial turf surface as well as renovated dugouts, new lights, and a new scoreboard.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah travels to the nation's top ranked team, Virginia Wesleyan, for a Friday afternoon ODAC doubleheader. This double-dip was moved up 24 hours because of the expected poor weather in the Hampton Roads area.
