Softball Sweeps Randolph

Hornets Win, 10-5 and 8-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed its ODAC regular season slate Monday by taking a pair from Randolph College.

Shenandoah (10-18, 7-13 ODAC) was a 10-5 winner in the opener before finishing off the 'Cats (5-16-1, 0-9-1) with an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Shenandoah earned the game one win with two runs in both the fourth and fifth combined with a six-spot in the seventh and outlasted Randolph, 10-5.

The WildCats made matters interesting by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh, all with two outs, to come within five runs.

Alexis Hurley, the third SU pitcher in the frame, got the final out by inducing a lineout to first.

Megan Scalley (3-9) tossed the first 6.0 innings and got the win after allowing three runs on four hits and five walks against three strikeouts.

Morgan Henley got the initial two outs in the seventh before Hurley finished up.

Tiffany Bower and Nikki Stone both had three hits with Stone driving in three runs and Bower two.

Kamryn Kelly was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Henley, Sammy Amateau, and Taylor Glover all had two hits.

Kelly's two-run double in the seventh proved to be the game-winning RBI.

GAME TWO

A five-run first was more than enough offense for SU to earn the 8-1 game two victory.

Stone, Kelly, and Allison Thompson all drove in runs in the first with Thompson plating two on a two-out single to right.

Kelly led the offense with a 3-for-5 contest that included two RBI and a run scored.

Stone and Thompson both finished with two RBI while Glover and Allie Schey had two hits apiece.

Kayla Stephenson (6-7) went the distance in the circle. She allowed the one run on six hits and one walk while striking out five in the 96-pitch outing.

UP NEXT

The Hornets wrap up their 2021 regular season tomorrow afternoon with a non-league doubleheader at Mary Washington.
