HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Host Hampden-Sydney stopped Shenandoah University three times in the red zone Saturday afternoon in a 28-7 ODAC football victory over the Hornets.

Shenandoah (2-1, 0-1 ODAC) led 7-0 after a completing a six-play, 40-yard drive with a 13-yard
Gary Garlic touchdown run with 2:46 to play in the first, but saw the Tigers (1-2, 1-0) score 28 unanswered to earn the win.

The Hornets first missed opportunity in the red zone came on their initial drive of the game as SU drove 84 yards in 16 plays but stalled out on a 4
th-and-2 at the H-SC 11.

Quante Redd interception seven plays later kick-started the touchdown drive, but the failed fourth play proved to be an omen of things to come.

Shenandoah finished 0-for-4 on fourth down plays during the game, turning it over on downs to the Tigers at the H-SC 11, 44, 5, and 49 yard lines.

The Hornets also missed a 32-yard field goal after having a first-and-goal at the Tigers 2.

Hampden-Sydney did most of its damage in the second quarter, scoring at 13:37, 8:45, and 5:06 to take a 21-7 lead into the break.

The final score of the game, a 49-yard Tanner Bernard to Braeden Bowling TD pass, came at the 11:02 mark of the third.

H-SC rolled up 451 yards of offense on 62 plays with SU posting 291 yards on 78. Hornets quarterbacks

Zack Mathis were a combined 23-for-40 for 156 yards.
Brant Butler had seven receptions for 90 yards.

Bernard was 20-of-28 for 263 yards and two touchdowns against one interception for Hampden-Sydney.
