Men's Soccer Falls to Scots

Maryville Wins, 3-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Shenandoah University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Sunday in a 3-1 decision versus Maryville (Tenn.).
 
The Scots (2-1) broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 23rd minute and then got the lone goal of the second half to push past SU (1-1).
 
IN BRIEF
First-year Cesar Orellana scored the Hornets goal, converting a penalty kick at 19:40 to knot the game at 1-1.
 
Maryville scored the initial goal of the contest at 12:53 and closed the game's scoring in the 63rd.
 
The Scots outshot SU, 18-12, and had a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.
 
Dylan Johnson played all 90 minutes in the goal for SU and made five saves.
 
UP NEXT
The men open their 2021 home slate on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. non-league game versus Mary Washington.
