Women's Hoops Dominates Panthers

Hornets Lead Start to Finish in 94-59 Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team dominated from start to finish Saturday in a 94-59 ODAC victory over Ferrum College.

The Hornets (9-4, 4-4 ODAC), who led wire-to-wire, opened up a 24-9 lead after 10 minutes of play and never looked back versus the Panthers (5-12, 3-6).

IN BRIEF
Shenandoah shot 57 percent from the field (8-of-14) and made three 3-pointers in jumping out to that 15-point first quarter advantage.

Ferrum actually outscored SU, 22-20, in the second, but Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club scored 25 points in both the third and fourth quarters to turn the game into a rout.

Smeltzer-Kraft substituted liberally in the second half, with all 14 women appearing in the contest and none playing more than 24 minutes.

Sarah Sondrol led the victors with 18 points while Ragan Johnson had 12 points and seven rebounds and Olivia Weinel 11 points. Three women: Terese Greene, Sierra St. Cyr, and Zoe Star, had nine points each.

SU shot 55 percent (35-of-64) from the field for the game with 53 of its 94 points coming off the bench. The Hornets also owned a 51-34 advantage on the glass.

QUOTABLE
"Today was a great win," Smeltzer-Kraft said. "We were able to flex our depth and stayed disciplines for 40 minutes. A number of different people stepped up and played well."

Shenandoah makes the quick trip down I-81 Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Eastern Mennonite.
