ASHLAND, Va. – Shenandoah University completed its field hockey regular season Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 ODAC victory over Randolph-Macon.
Shenandoah (16-2, 7-1 ODAC) clinches a share of the ODAC regular season championship with the win over R-MC (7-11, 3-5).
IN BRIEF
SU, Washington & Lee, and Lynchburg all tie atop the league standings with 7-1 marks with W&L earning the No. 1 seed, Lynchburg the second and Shenandoah the third seed based on the goal differential tiebreaker.
SU dominated play Saturday afternoon, taking 17 of the game's 18 shots and owning an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Mairead Mckibbin, the league's leading scorer, got what proved to be the game-winner with her goal off of a
Cassidy Morrison assist 8:30 into the contest.
Kelsey Jones and
Claudia Lenahan scored in the second quarter with Jones and
Madison Short tallying in the fourth to provide the final margin of victory.
Taylor Swann had to make just one save to post her sixth shutout of the fall.
UP NEXT
These two teams meet again on Tuesday in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament. Shenandoah, as the No. 3 seed, will host this quarterfinal round contest.
