Winchester, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned the third seed in the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament and hosts No. 6 Randolph-Macon Tuesday night in a quarterfinal round matchup.
The nationally ranked Hornets (16-2, 7-1 ODAC) closed out their regular season with a 5-0 win on Oct. 29 over the Yellow Jackets (7-11, 3-5). They now own a nine-game winning streak over R-MC, dating back to 2014.
SU began its season with a program long 12 game winning streak capped off by a 2-1 road victory over nationally ranked Lynchburg.
Shenandoah is led by sophomore, Mairead McKibbin, who leads the ODAC in goals and points with 27 and 61, respectively. Teammates
Kelsey Jones and
Farren Winter are also top-10 in the conference for points. Winter leads the league in assists with 12.
The Hornets, who have eight shutout wins, lead all NCAA divisions with an average scoring margin of 4.65 per game and in goals per game with 5.76. SU set a program record with 103 goals scored, the previous record was 90 goals in 2019.
R-MC's leader in goals is Alaina McCoy who has eight goals and midfielder Summer Kujawa leads the team with 7 assists.
In each of their ODAC wins, the Yellow Jackets shutout the opponent in each of the victories. They outscored the other teams 7-0 in those wins.
Each team found themselves in a three-way tie at the end of the regular season. The Hornets were tied with Washington & Lee and Lynchburg after all finishing 7-1 in conference play. The tie came down to goal differential with W&L earning the one seed and Lynchburg gets the second seed.
The winner of the game will travel down to No. 2 Lynchburg Thursday for the semifinal round.
