Field Hockey Semifinals Preview

No. 3 SU plays no. 2 Lynchburg on Thursday.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 3 Shenandoah University travels down to no. 2 University of Lynchburg for the semifinals of the 2022 ODAC Field Hockey Tournament.
 
The Hornets advance to the semifinals after defeating Randolph-Macon, 3-1, Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Cassidy Morrison scored two fourth quarter goals helping SU prevail as the victors.
 
The first time LYN and SU played, SU won 2-1 with two late goals by Mariead McKibbin and Claudia Lenahan. Shenandoah goalie, Taylor Swann, had 13 saves in the win. LYN goalie, Kayla Brady, made eight stops.
 
Shenandoah's top point scorers are McKibbin with 62, Kelsey Jones with 46, and Morrison with 37. Lynchburg is lead by Emily Yanes with 35, Marlou Wendricks at 33, and Kessa Romero with 21. These five women also represent half of the top-10 goal scorers in the conference.
 
The two Hornets found themselves in a three-way tie with Washington & Lee for first place in the ODAC at the end of the season. The tiebreaker came down to goal differential with the Generals getting the first seed.
 
SU and LYN come into the game nationally ranked by the NFHCA, ranked 18 and 19, respectively.
 
With a win in the semifinals, Shenandoah can break the program record for wins in a season. They tied the 2019 squads record with 17 wins in the quarterfinals.
 
The winner of this game will head to the ODAC Championship Saturday and play the winner of no. 1 Washington & Lee and no. 4 Roanoke.
