Women's Hoops Stings Lynchburg

Hornets Win, 80-58

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its fifth victory of the season Saturday afternoon with an 80-48 blowout at ODAC rival Lynchburg.

All five of Shenandoah's wins this year have been by at least 22 points. SU (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) has 22- and 32-point victories to its credit this week.

IN BRIEF
Shenandoah wasted little time in jumping on its fellow set of ODAC Hornets - SU led Lynchburg (1-7, 0-3) by nine points, 17-8, after one.

Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club expanded that lead by an additional point in the second before pulling away over the final 20 minutes. The visitors outscored Lynchburg, 22-12, in the third and closed out the contest with a 20-8 advantage in the fourth.

Ten of the 11 women that appeared in the game put their name on the scoresheet with junior Madisen Kimble leading the way by pouring in a game-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists.

Terese Greene and Gabby Krystofiak chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Shenandoah shot 46 percent from the field (30-of-66) and was a perfect 11 for 11 from the charity stripe. The SU defense held Lynchburg to 26 percent shooting (15-of-58) and did not allow its hosts a double-digit scorer.

UP NEXT
The women step out-of-conference Wednesday in a 7 p.m. contest at Mount Aloysius.
