Women's Soccer's Season Comes to an End on Late Goal

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The No. 8 Shenandoah women's soccer team lost a 1-0 ODAC Quarterfinals match on Tuesday night at No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University.

The Marlins (14-3-1) scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to defeat the Hornets (8-6-4) and advance to the semifinals.

IN BRIEF
In a half where the ball stayed on the Hornets' offensive side of the field, the Marlins transitioned down the field and fed the ball into the box. The ball found the foot of a Virginia Wesleyan attacker who then got a shot off and placed the ball in the back of the net for the winner.

Shenandoah had most of its chances in the second half including a header by Ellie Ajello which was perfectly saved by the goalkeeper.

Shenandoah's Karissa Dominick made six saves in the game, none bigger than a save on a penalty kick in the first half. Dominick dove to the left side of the net and caught the ball with her body to keep the game even.

Towards the end of the first Chandler Gallant came close to breaking the tie, as a long shot from the junior came within inches of the crossbar.

Nine different SU players had a shot in the game.
