WINCHESTER, Va – On the final day of the Shenandoah Tournament, the Hornets (3-1) fell to No. 8 ranked Carnegie Mellon (4-0) Tartans 3-0 on a wet and soggy Sunday afternoon. The Tartans put immediate pressure on the Hornets' back line from the opening whistle. Shenandoah was able to draw the Tartans offside to keep the score level at zero.
Peyton Lubinsky attempted to get the Hornet offense going firing a shot just wide of the goal. However, just over a minute later the Tartans would strike first when Vivian Wang beat
Karissa Dominick off an assist from Ayana Curto.
Shenandoah did well to weather the Tartan attack and fight off shots, but the Tartans would find the back of the net again right before the half-off a foul just outside the box. Carnegie Mellon would take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Hornets would come out of the break and attempt to get on the board, but Shenandoah could not find the play to crack the Tartan defense. Carnegie Mellon would add one more insurance goal late in the half from just outside the box to put away the Hornets 3-0.
The Tartans outshot the Hornets 16-6 on the day.
Karissa Dominick kept Shenandoah in the game making seven stops on the afternoon.
Kasie Kilmer would sub in late in the second half and stopped the only shot she saw on a breakaway attempt from the Tartans.
Nest up for the Hornets, they will hit the road for a non-conference mid-week matchup with Hood Wednesday afternoon.
