WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Shenandoah Men's Soccer ended day two of the Catholic Opening Tournament with a 2-1 win over the Lions from TCNJ. Shenandoah (1-1) struck first when
Nathan Yared buried his second goal of the young season in the 14
th minute.
Chinedu Ikem dished out the helper and the Hornets were held scoreless for the remainder of the half.
TCNJ (0-2) leveled the score at one, on a goal in the 61
st minute, but it was
Logan Whited who had the game-winning goal in the 73-minute that secured the first win of the season for Shenandoah.
It was not for a lack of trying as the Lions out shot the Hornets (18-12) for the contest.
Travis Jett made the start in between the pipes for SU and stopped four of the five shots he saw. TCNJ made one final push with a corner kick in the 88
th minute, but the Hornet defensive line stepped up to the challenge and shut down the final rush of the Lions to secure the victory.
The Hornets will return to action next weekend at home as they host the Shenandoah Tournament. The Hornets will take on Susquehanna on Friday night at 8 p.m. and have a quick turnaround as Penn College comes to Winchester on Saturday morning.
